About this deal

star that I would have DNFed if I wasn’t hoping for a correlation to the original story contained in this volume. The series is praised by critics for its blend of the political thriller, historical drama and horror genres.

The manhwa artist provides detailed, gritty drawings that work great for gore and perfectly fit the graphic novel's dark tone, making each page a treat to look at. From the second story, I liked the fact the two protagonists are from different countries (One is Korean and one is Japanese) and can't understand each other at all at the beginning of their story because as we the reader can understand them both, it makes what both of them are saying to one another even funnier. It's hard to deny that the premise is fantastic -- the Netflix show proves how much potential there is in a zombie-related political thriller thrust into dynastic Korea. Rather than it being air born and being bitten or scratched by a zombie this is spread in a pretty horrific way.

I actually forgot that there was a bonus story included, so I was initially a little confused about why it was there. When he awakes, he’s chained to a large boulder, surrounded by skinned humans and a Korean medic named Han, who was sent to the island for killing and dissecting a lot of people. If you look for 'almost unique commonality' of 'God's Country: Burning Hell' and 'Kingdom', the background is the Joseon Dynasty and zombies appear.

Jonathan Christian from The Playlist complimented the series by adding that "this series is risky programming for people who appreciate the unusual, gory, but imaginative, things in life. Investigating, they discover the corpses of the patients, which are then brought to Dongnae for autopsy and funeral rites. He's the morally grey guy who starts out only helping the good guys for the money but slowly we see his heart start to change especially in regards to our protagonist. As long-suppressed rage and terrible new magics consume the world, the Maelstrom – which even gods fear – is summoned forth. And we follow a stubborn but proud child prince and a money-grubbing bandit named Jae-ha who’s more than he seems. Kingdom: Ashin of the North explores the backstory of a Jurchen woman named Ashin and the origin of the resurrection plant that triggered the events in Kingdom. I usually don't like child characters, especially when they are so young (we're never given an exact age but I'd guess Yi Moon is around ten years old) but I had none of my usual problems with kid protagonists.
