About this deal

There are two parts to the game: the gather phase (which is not real-time) and the fight phase (which is real-time!

One of the puzzles left me perplexed so I used the hint but I doubt I would’ve been able to piece the information together without it. This game will continue to delight you through the three adventures and when done, you can easily try them all again. We all very much enjoyed the story in this, and being a fan of the films made this a very special experience for me. Our Six Degrees of Expectation have been written to make it easier for you to find out what is important to you as a player. Even if we don’t like something, hopefully it helps you to decide if it is something that you should find out more about.Though this is the type of game where you need to learn how to play before you play as hitting the timed round without knowing the base mechanics it’s going to just be an epic disaster. The Pathway tests are where you place a transparent piece of plastic over a card showing a location and marking the starting dot.

As each gem was added to the Sand Timer our group was collectively holding our breath, to see if it would flip. And, even if you get squished by a giant boulder, you get to move on to the next scene making it a “fail forward” and I love that in a narrative-based game. This may take some experience and planning ahead of time, but it is an important aspect to consider for a family game night. These do not influence editorial content, though Vox Media may earn commissions for products purchased via affiliate links. You know that moment in action movies where the tension is rising and the hero has this look of dread as they look on at a seemingly no-win predicament? I don't want to spoil how these work so I am just going to show you what the instructions tell you about these.

Nothing is destroyed in the playing of the game, so it can easily be passed on and shared with other puzzle game aficionados or 1980s movie buffs. That’s me right now, as I realize the challenge of reviewing games like this without spoiling anything. There are variable setups and phases for the game to make sure you get your money’s worth and supports 2-10 players. With every players turn in the first phase of each round, there was a consequence of either adding gems to the Sand Timer or activating the villain, or sometimes both. The two-sided location tiles add some nice replay value to the game, as you can mix and match which side is being used.

So the game becomes a fast synapse sizzling session with split second decisions over when to stop laying cards and pass over to the next player! Grab your fedora-shaped thinking hat, kick on the John Williams music, and let’s get to decrypting Indiana Jones Cryptic. But with only 3 villains and 4 characters, I do worry that Sands of Adventure will get a little samey after a while.
