About this deal

Ha, I notice that Bill rarely makes much comment on the poems that begin each chapter! I would be interested in a show of hands as to who actually reads them? I mean, we have discussed before how they can give an indication as to the tone, themes, mood, characters that might be following in the chapter, but that sure doesn’t mean everyone is going to be reading them! So who does? Midnight Tides, Chapter 2, US SFBC p.69 - In 1169 BS, Tehol Beddict says the palace has been under construction for 17 years Sensing the coming battle against the Crippled God's infection within her flesh, Burn sleeps. She makes of herself a weapon, placing all of her spirit and power into a hammer capable of breaking the chains poisoning her. [50] Impoverished Patrician: Tehol Beddict once owned about a quarter of he Letherii economy before an economic crash cost his investors most of their money and left him on the street. Tehol engineered the entire chain of events as proof-of-concept that the economy could be brought down, and actually hid most of the cash safely; technically, he still owns most of the city. He publicly lives in squalor to avoid suspicion and because it amuses him to confuse people. Just a thought here… Surely it would be a good idea to find out how many people you’ll be fighting against? “We have never known the population of Edur lands.”

Kholb Harat, an unblooded Tiste Edur, one of the 'chosen' brothers of Rhulad Sengar (First mentioned) [13] (First appearance) [7] I find “swish” to be an entertainingly clumsy word used by Erikson. His choice of vocabulary is usually superlative, fitting exactly the image he wishes to portray. “Swish” just doesn’t cut it! Memories of Ice, Chapter 25 - during the siege of Capustan Itkovian said he was born three decades ago Several years prior to Gardens of the Moon, the Tiste Edur have united under Hannan Mosag, their first high king in memory. Tensions are running high in the region, however, as the Letherii Empire to the south is becoming increasingly aggressive with its diplomacy with the approach of a sacred event known as the Seventh Closure. These tensions are only exacerbated when Trull Sengar arrives with the news that Letherii poachers have gone after the seals vital to the Edur populations in the area. Before a major incident can be made of this, though, Hannan Mosag announces he has had a dream of a gift from a god buried in the ice far to the north. In the dream, the Sengar brothers were shown to be part of the group to retrieve it, and so Fear, Trull, Binadas, Rhulad and their allies set out to find it. Rhulad Sengar and the Tiste Edur conquer Letheras and Rhulad becomes emperor of the Letherii Empire. The Errant manipulates the death of Brys Beddict.

Fantasy Books Of The Year

Seregahl, aka the Toblakai, the five ancient feared gods of the Tarthenal (First mentioned) [6] (First appearance) [14]

Hull Beddict is promoted to Sentinel and sent to study the Nerek, Tarthenal, and Faraed tribes on the Letherii Empire's northern frontier [95] Udinaas is enslaved by the Hiroth after the whaling vessel, the Brunt, is captured by Tiste Edur [89]If the Letherii have been enslaved by the Tiste Edur, then I do sort of understand the rebellious nature of their relationship right now!

Scabandari Bloodeye betrays Silchas Ruin, slays his entire force, and leaves him imprisoned within an Azath House. [12]One has to wonder if the K’risnan are in any way a metaphor for what Hannan has in store for the Edur: taken by force, robbed of the own identities, bound to be loyal. One would think they, perhaps even more than the shadow, might give some concern. Isn’t it hideous the way that the Edur mages sneer at Seren when she mentions the Edur children? I guess it is the age-old question: would you sacrifice millions to save billions? This is very much a Watchmen-like moment! And their callousness in allowing their own side to succumb to the wave of power… No respect for the Letherii right now. However, I am certain that Erikson will soon provide me reason enough to not exclusively side with the Edur either! Tehol provided Tavore and her army necessary supplies and passage through the Wastelands enroute to Kolanse. He also allowed Brys to accompany them with a large detachment of Letherii forces. That all of this was achieved with but a handful of modest proclamations and edicts makes the situation all the more remarkable.
