About this deal

In Ethan's case, you can almost say he has a sort of death wish with how deeply he involves himself in this case. There is no tragedy in his mistaken murder of Desdemona. There is no honour in killing her even if she was unfaithful. A modern view of family violence leaves Othello as nothing but a killer acting out the narrative of gendered violence of the 16th century Venetian society presented by Shakespeare. We are left without a tragedy and just a murder. I highly recommend this if you're looking for a different kind of murder mystery story that will indeed leave you guessing till the end. You can say anything,’ said Othello. ‘You could call me an honourable murderer. I didn’t do it in hate, but in honour.’ This murder/mystery/thriller leaves you guessing who exactly Ali is, who Ethan is, because both have secrets and hidden desires.

I’m not afraid of your sword,’ she said. ‘I’m going to expose you, even if I should lose twenty lives. She began to shout. Help! Help, help, help! The Moor has killed my mistress! Murder! Murder!’ Thank you @NetGalley and @OrangeSkyAudio for the opportunity to read and review this advanced reader copy. He bent over her and kissed her gently. ‘Oh sweet breath that almost persuades me to change my mind. Once more, once more.’ He kissed her again. ‘If you are so beautiful when you are dead then I will kill you and keep loving you. Once more, and this is the last.’ He kissed her again. ‘Something so sweet was never so fatal. I must weep. But these are cruel tears. This is a holy sorrow – it hits where it loves.’ He drew in his breath. ‘She’s waking up!’It’s unnatural to kill someone for loving,’ she said. ‘Why are you chewing your lower lip like that? Some terrible passion is shaking your whole body. These are signs of something but I hope against hope they’re not pointing at me.’ Gentlemen,’ she said. ‘Let me have my say. I know I should obey him, but not now. Perhaps, Iago, I’ll never go home.’ Othello’s abuse of Desdemona matches the Commission’s description of family violence as a multifaceted pattern of escalating behaviour rather than a single event. As so often in films like this, an fading American star was imported. Pat O'Brien was 58 at the time, with what one reviewer's described as a turnip face (given his Irishness, potato face seems nearer the mark.) He looks tired, though given the character is a drunken, depressed widower, that's quite appropriate. Again, she didn’t flinch. ‘You don’t have half the power to do me harm that I have to be hurt. Oh you gullible fool. As ignorant as dirt! You have done a deed…’

Oh, the pernicious rascal!’ said Othello. ‘How did you get hold of my wife’s handkerchief, Cassio?’ Iago snarled at him. ‘Ask me nothing,’ he said. ‘You know what you know. From this moment I won’t speak a word.’ Desdemona dreams of leading a peaceful and romantic life were spoiled because Iago is still behind them trying to spoil their life to take revenge from Othello for not promoting him. Desdemona has some clue that there is something going wrong between her and her husband but her innocence and complete devotion to her love made her helpless. Help! Help!’ cried Emilia. ‘Ho, help.’ She began slapping Desdemona’s face. ‘Oh lady, speak again,’ she said, again and again. ‘Sweet Desdemona.’And you figure out who's the killer pretty early on... until you don't! Because the revealing plot twist was what salvaged the story for me, because if it had been who I was assuming, the book would have flopped for me.

Go on,’ Emilia was saying. ‘Contradict this villain, if you’re a man. He says you told him that his wife was unfaithful. I know you didn’t. I know you’re not such a villain.’ Yes, very soon. Therefore, confess your sin freely, because denying any of it under oath can’t remove my strong belief in your guilt. You’re going to die.’ This is one of many 1950s British B-pictures which featured an American actor in the lead role, in this case round-faced, turnip-haired Pat 'O Brien. He usually played well-meaning Irish priests or policemen but here he's somewhat unsympathetic, and unconvincing, as Bart Crosbie, a washed-up journalist going through a mid-life crisis. His wife died in a car accident (he was driving), he has a drink problem and now his estranged son (Jimmy) needs an eye operation because of a tumor. I’m not sure if it was the story or the narrator but I had a bit of difficulty with connecting with the book and it was a bit hard to follow. He did a great job with Ethan and the unknown character but it definitely would’ve been more immersive with a female narrator doing Ali’s POV.Desdemona herself adopts the narrative of being the property of others, saying she has preserved her body for Othello “from any other unlawful touch”. The story is told by three different points of view: Ethan, Ali and an unknown character (who is revealed in the end). Throughout the play, her name is invariably accompanied by kind and good personality adjectives. Cassio also calls her “divine Desdemona” and “virtuous Desdemona” while Desdemona’s maid, Emilia refers to her as “sweet Desdemona”. What noise is this?’ said Othello. Desdemona was still moving. ‘Not dead?’ he said. ‘Not quite dead? I may be cruel but I’m still merciful. I wouldn’t have you lingering in your pain.’ He applied more pressure to the pillow. ‘So, so.’ Just do it and hurry,’ he said. ‘I’ll wait. I don’t want to kill your unprepared soul. No, heaven forbid, I don’t want to kill your soul.’

Ethan is a divorced father of three, in need of money. He has been hired by Camille to investigate her father’s death which is listed as suicide; she suspects he was murdered. Ethan has been on the case for several months; he has a lead suspect, a woman. There is a connection between all the victims…Beacon the dating app. Could Ali be the serial killer? She is influential, devious and everything Ethan wants in a woman. There is much more to Ethan’s story. But it doesn't end there, because just when you think things are resolved... you get hit with yet another twist in events. Venetian society is barely aware of male violence towards women. Iago’s abuse of his wife Emilia, for instance, is not commented on or apparently even noticed by the other characters. The only rebuke of Othello is made by Lodovico (representative of the Venetian duke and senate) who, observing Othello strike Desdemona, tells him to “make amends” – but makes no other intervention. The problem is that Ali can never quite find it for herself, which doesn't stop her from trying to find it, in many ways.... In the Shakespeare play, Iago, when describing Desdemona’s secret marriage to Othello to her father Brabantio, characterises it as an act of theft.

Kill Me Tomorrow by Britney King is an extremely addictive psychological thriller that is fast paced, twisty and a bit steamy. Cassio had her. Ask your husband. If I hadn’t done this without just cause I would be damned to the lowest level of hell. Your husband knew everything.’
