About this deal

The stars of the show are mandelic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid that is one of the best for sensitive skin, which is all down to having a larger molecule than other AHAs, and rice bran (also known as phytic acid), which is a gentle AHA with antioxidant properties working to neutralise free radical damage to the skin. These two powerhouses are combined with polyhydroxy acids, the most gentle acid exfoliators out there — due to an even larger molecule and thus causing less irritation — working to unclog pores by dissolving dead skin cells. All of these ingredients work together to slough away dead skin cells, leaving a brighter, smoother complexion.

What it claims: There’s no question that salicylic acid is a go-to ingredient for preventing and treating acne. It’s also an ingredient Hyram has recommended before in products like the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant, which I used nightly before switching up my routine to try this line. Hyram’s iteration on a salicylic acid serum contains (ahem) 0.5% salicylic acid to unclog pores; niacinamide to control oil production; succinic acid, a naturally occurring chemical, to reduce bacteria and prevent future breakouts; and sea kelp to repair and protect the skin barrier from outside stressors and moisture loss. You’ll want to shake the bottle and apply three to five drops to the skin every morning after cleansing. The bottle contains one ounce. verifyErrors }}{{ message }}{{ /verifyErrors }}{{ Disclaimer: I mean no hate towards Hyram the human being. Please do not leave hate in the comments. These are just my thoughts about the brand. Each Selfless By Hyram product is formulated mindfully to deliver visible results without excess active ingredients. The best part is that it's super easy to use. Simply apply a couple of drops after cleansing and before moisturising. Though it's gentle, this product shouldn't be combined with lots of other strong acids in your routine — we don't want to be overexfoliating and ruining our skin barrier. And that actually makes sense: Exfoliating the skin too much can damage the skin barrier (the outermost layer of the skin), which is why a gentle touch is the way to go. This chemical exfoliant uses 3% mandelic acid, an AHA, to remove dead skin cells; polyhydroxy acid, referred to as a PHA, to exfoliate and add moisture; rice bran (phytic acid) to exfoliate and control oil production; and salicylic acid, a common anti-acne ingredient, to keep pores unclogged. You can apply three to four drops of this every other evening after cleansing the skin and before moisturizing, but you should not layer it with other exfoliating products or retinol. If you are looking to brighten your skin, or smooth texture Mandelic Acid & Rice Bran is a gentle exfoliating treatment suitable for all skin types. And on top of that, I do feel like there's a lot of greenwashing going on here. Yes, it gives to charity but the marketing all says "this skincare brand is going to change the world" and while someone could argue that this brand is good because it can compete with unethical brands...Selfless by Hyram is still creating a lot of waste and its price points and products are not competitive on the market. On 1 June, Hyram Yarbro — a science-based skin-care expert and influencer with 12 million followers — announced the exciting launch of his new skin-care brand, Selfless by Hyram. In partnership with The Inkey List, the aim of Selfless by Hyram is to positively impact challenges currently being faced by people and the planet — all whilst delivering incredible skin-care results. What it claims: A pea-sized amount of this moisturizer can be used in the morning and evening after cleansing the skin and adding any treatments. It claims that the 5% niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, reduces the skin’s oil and the appearance of pores; maracujá, an oil from passion fruit seeds, strengthens the skin barrier and promotes healing in damaged or weak skin; madecassoside, an extract from the centella asiatica plant, soothes sensitive skin; and murumuru butter, an extract from the seeds of palm trees, softens the skin. It’s suitable for all skin types and comes with 1.7 ounces.
