About this deal

If you establish a book as an ideal inspirational story for a graduating senior, you are set for life. What I love about this book is that it sets up a pretty clear message without pandering to its audience. There stands Colin, happy as you please, and there's his mother, staring at an acorn as if it was the sword of Damocles incarnate. Overprotect your offspring and watch them succumb to the evils of the world MUCH FASTER than if you'd merely let them take their lumps along the way. But soon enough he realizes that the cotton is a bit more of a hindrance than anyone could have imagined.

Jeanne has also worked on scripts for TV, including Polly Pocket and The Slow Norris, and a pilot TV series for Dr Xargle. Definitely worth a peek if you want literary fare that's appropriate for the kiddies but not the usual rigmarole you encounter. In fact she worries so much that he is never let out of the house because he might get hurt or sick. Fun to read, ideal for graduations, not too shabby for kids, and fabulous for overprotective adults, this is a picture book for all types, in all seasons.

The story is really better suited to the overprotective parents than children, but both groups will get something out of this. His mother refuses to let him play outside with his brothers and sisters unless he is wrapped in a big fluffy ball of cotton wool. Afraid that her smallest child, Colin, will be hurt if he goes outside or plays, a mother mouse insists that he sit quietly indoors until his grandmother suggests wrapping him in cotton wool, which proves to be effective, but in a most unexpected way. By the time we finished laughing and gasping through Cottonwool Colin, the consensus was – this is a book for Moms! This book is perfect for a graduate and/or the protective parent such as myself, and was thinking to myself while reading that I could soooo relate to what was written about the mama mouse. As Colin has adventures throughout the day he loses bits of his cotton here and there but he survives! But what about the picture book that contains a subtle, understated, sly little message, not for children, but for their parents instead? This book is about a little mouse name Colin and he was the smallest out of all his brothers and sisters and his mom wouldn't let him go out and play because she didn't want him to get hurt. A sweet story that helps children see why parents can be so protective, and that we may need to prove to our parents over time that we can be independent.
