Find out what produce grows locally and organise a Farm Visit where children can learn about the conditions needed to produce different food. Ask the children to work in small groups and write a list of food they think are produced in a country outside the UK. Ask the children to jot down which country they think these foods come from. The large majority of the food we eat is made up of raw ingredients grown by farmers from the UK and across the world. There are two main types of farming - arable and pastoral. In 2021 all four of the food sectors had a higher productivity than in 2020. Manufacturing increased by 3.2 per cent, wholesale increased by 1.5 per cent, retail increased by 2.3 per cent and catering increased by 10.7 per cent, the latter demonstrating nearly a full recovery from the conditions faced during the height of the pandemic.
