My body and I had put up an epic fight but, well into the second year of it, I remained in agony and despair. Until one day when I woke up after having a dream of me posting to my Instagram saying I’d just landed the best trick in the world, and I knew from that morning it would be possible. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth, Hamilton required a wheelchair due to challenges moving his own muscles.

As he stood up, he described the right side of his body 'melting through the muscle down to the bone' and 'blistering and bubbling like a chop under a grill on max' while his clothes were incinerating and his hair was on fire. For Jamie to have lived through such dark and painful times and come out the other side so positive, and to have achieved the things he has whilst carrying scars and disability has to be a real lesson in what the human spirit can achieve with the right mental attitude. Jamie sustained a total of 60 percent 3rd degree burns to his body and remained in intensive care for 6 months in America in an induced-coma and, following his repatriation, was hospitalised for a further 18 months in the UK. Eventually he agreed to visit a friend, Dr Pete Mash, in Colorado who had worn him down with his persistence and enthusiasm.

Jamie came to speak to 150 of our Top Management Group and Senior Operational Officers in London Fire Brigade. Upon reaching hospital in Orlando, Jamie begged doctors to knock him out with anaesthetic, and six months later he woke up in Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, on one of the country's leading burns units, with his parents - who are separated - by his bedside. By speaking to people about his life, the accident and his horrendous fight back to normality Jamie aims to inspire confidence and energy in any audience. It was quite an extraordinary moment of calmness that allowed the clarity of thought to conjure up the only possible escape under the circumstances.He described 'sitting in a moving fire' as he steered the aircraft towards the damp grass, knowing if he leapt onto concrete he'd die. Seeing my skin healing before my very eyes, I was experiencing some sort of low-grade religious experience,' he wrote. Joining the Help for Heroes Band of Brothers fellowship network in 2011 gave Jamie the platform he needed to turn his life around: “I had lost all belief in myself. I read it over 3 days which never happens to me, the first night I couldn’t sleep at all as it resonated with me personally on so many levels that I hadn’t anticipated.
